Alexandre Lacazette speaks on Coquelin’s role in his move…

Arsenal’s record signing Alexandre Lacazette revealed that he spoke to midfielder Francis Coquelin before agreeing his move to the Emirates Stadium.

Lacazette and Coquelin played together in the French youth development sides, culminating in their 2010 U19 European Championships triumph.

Coincidently, Lacazette came off the bench to net the winner in the final, and it seems the two have kept in touch ever since.

While the former Lyon man makes it clear that he always intended on joining Arsenal this summer, he sought to get the low down on how life at Arsenal is for a professional footballer and received a glowing reference.

“Francis and I kept in touch after that,” Lacazette told Arsenal Player when speaking about their at international youth level.

“We’ve had a lot of contact over the last few years and even more over the last few weeks, of course, since it became increasingly likely that I would come to Arsenal.

“He has said only good things about Arsenal, which is not surprising because he wanted me to join the club. Even without that I still really wanted to come here.”

Given the warming multicultural nature of our squad, we very rarely sign a player who isn’t able to fully communicate and connect with a member of the squad.

Coquelin isn’t the only French-speaker in the squad, though it’s definitely comfortable for a new signing to see a familiar face in the dressing room upon arrival.
