Arsene Wenger hailed the team’s response since the debacle at Anfield after we extended our unbeaten run to seven games with a comfortable 2-0 win against Brighton.

Goals from Nacho Monreal and Alex Iwobi handed us all three points as we closed the gap at the top to six points with both Manchester clubs leading the way.

There seems to have been a change in attitude since our drubbing at Liverpool, with an added focus on our defensive duties and the results are evident.

The win on Sunday represented our third clean sheet in a row and an impressive run of six wins in seven games across all competitions.

Wenger has always stated that a team’s season is defined by how it responds to disappointments, and we’re certainly showing some positive signs.

“Well I believe we played the game at Liverpool under very special circumstances and afterwards people go to definite conclusions on a bad day that we acknowledged,” Wenger told BT Sport.

“Nothing is permanent in life, we have always room to improve, and that’s what we did.

“Also, in any season you have moments that are difficult and the quality of a season is decided by how well you have a response, united or not, motivated or not, and that’s what we did.”

While Wenger’s sentiment about our response is understandable, we’re yet to face a true test to determine if we’ve learnt from our heavy defeat at Liverpool.

The goalless draw at Chelsea was positive, but playing against an identical system didn’t require us to do too much thinking tactically.

Back-to-back games in November against Manchester City and Spurs will define our season.
