Charlie Nicholas anticipating Wenger exit…

Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas believes that Arsene Wenger will step down as Gunners boss at the end of the season and hoped that he’d already announce it in order to provide clarity.

Wenger told reporters that a decision on his future has been made and that the world would know “very soon” after our diabolic defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

Given the timing of such a statement, Nicholas claimed that there’s an air of inevitability about Wenger’s departure though he thought the win over Lincoln City last week may have been the best time to announce it.

“That was the right time, for me, to make the announcement,” The Scotsman said on Soccer Saturday.

“I’m anticipating that the time is finished now and he’s going to announce he going to depart or that he’s going to step aside from the manager’s position at Arsenal.”

The fact that Wenger chose the post-match interview in this fixture to tell the world that he’s come to a conclusion on his future has many thinking that it can only go one way.

It would take some special mind to decide to sign a new two-year deal in the midst of arguably the club’s worst period in two decades largely caused by his managerial failings.

Wenger seemingly cannot get this team to challenge at the top end of the game and should do the right thing and walk away before the atmosphere takes a turn for the worse.
