Charlie Nicholas is happy about Alexandre Lacazette’s arrival…

Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has described the signing of France striker Alexandre Lacazette as a “statement of intent” after we broke our club transfer record to land the 26-year-old.

Following what transpired last season in our most tumultuous campaign to date under Arsene Wenger, a huge summer inevitably beckoned and it seems the club are up to the task.

Wenger seems intent on proving that his latest contract extension wasn’t worn born out of sentiment and that he is here to deliver the big trophies.

Big signings were the prerequisite and Lacazette is the first through the door, something Nicholas is certainly excited about.

While some have attempted to pour some doubt on Lacazette’s ability, Nicholas’ excitement hasn’t been dampened.

“He is at a prime age now to look to hit the ground running at Arsenal,” Nicholas told SkySportsNewsHQ.

“Arsenal needed a guy who’s intelligent, his movement is good, he’s got good speed and he doesn’t always have to go and be an old-fashioned number nine.

“It is a big statement of intent from Arsenal.”

The former Celtic also likened this deal to that of Nicolas Anelka, a bar Lacazette would do well to reach.

Wenger has been reluctant to purchase from the French market in recent years, but he’s finally accepted that the best talent is emanating from his home once again.

Check out Charlie Nicholas’ full take on the signing and how this impacts on our other priorities in the video above.
