Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit threw is support behind Arsene Wenger and claimed that fans should expect a splurge in the transfer market soon.

Petit, who’s been very critical of Wenger in the past, believes that lessons have been learned at the club and that will become evident in the transfer market.

Following such a tumultuous campaign, Wenger defied the feeling of many fans to extend his contract by another two years, and many feel he must display a huge desire change his method.

While it seems as though the ‘structural changes’ promised by the club were futile, Petit expects his former coach to flex his muscles financially in the market.

“It will probably shock a lot of Arsenal fans but I’m very happy that Arsene has signed for two more seasons,” Petit told SkySportsNewsHQ.

“I think this season has been frustrating for the fans, for the players and for the manager. But I think they have learned some lessons.

“I’m pretty sure that Arsene and Arsenal are willing to change things by putting enough money on the table to bring more and more players with a winning mentality,” the Frenchman added.

“I think we will see more players coming soon at the club.”

Petit’s faith is admirable, but many Arsenal fans have been let down on so many occasions that we’re now in a state where we only believe what we see.

Promises have not been kept in the past by the Arsenal hierarchy, which has led to the impasse in the excitement of some fans.
