Arsenal Legend Lets Rip On Gunners Board: They Might As Well Not Be There

Arsenal legend Alan Smith lambasts the board…

Arsenal legend Alan Smith has taken aim at the board for their odd silence during arguably our rockiest period under Arsene Wenger as we look like dropping out of the top four the first time.

Wenger has prided himself on his Champions League qualification record, despite only reaching the final once in 20 years and failing to clinch a Premier League title since 2004.

However, with Wenger’s contract up in June, Smith believes that the Gunners board might as well be vacant given that they’re unable to challenge the Frenchman.

With the pressure mounting, it seems as though the boss will decideĀ himself whether or not he extends the contract on the table and the Arsenal legend seems bothered by that theory.

“The board, you look at them, and it’s like no other in this country,” Smith told Sky Sports News HQ.

“They might as well not be there really. They don’t put Arsene Wenger under any pressure as far as I can see, Stanley Kroenke clearly doesn’t and is happy with the status quo.”

The board felt compelled to release a statement this month to insist that the decision on Wenger’s future will be made “mutually”, though very few people believe that to be the case.

If a decision has been made by Wenger and the board already, then withholding the information while our season goes into freefall is criminal and proves the concern from fans towards the regime.

We desperately need clarity either way.
