Paul Merson lets rip on Gunners’ board…

Arsenal legend Paul Merson let rip on the Gunners board after yet another shambolic AGM and particular questioned their decision-making regarding player contracts.

Our marquee names Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have months left to run on their and both look set to walk out on a free unless we decide to cash in during the January window.

After years of selling our best players to our rivals in order to fund the move to the Emirates Stadium, Ozil and Alexis were seen as the beacon of a shift in philosophy – that we’d now joined the elite clubs.

While our annual revenue stands handsomely among Europe’s elite, we’ve failed to translate that into the transfer market and when looking to add to our trophy cabinet.

And Merson feels robbed that our top players are now set to walk out without a single penny being recouped, and the former playmaker wants heads to roll for such a calamity.

“But I’m not stupid enough if I’m running a club to let seven, eight or nine players’ contracts run until the end of the season.

“That is as brainless as it gets in football terms.

“How can you let two world-class players sit there with six months left on their contract?

“Who can just walk away, if they want to walk away, for nothing.”

It really does seem like a watershed moment is nearing the club which will shake it to its very core. I’m not sure how long the board expects fans to accept such mediocrity throughout he club, but yet another finish outside the top four and the loss of Ozil and Alexis will send supporters over the edge.
