Lee Dixon hoping new boss gets time to implement ideas…

Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has called on the club’s hierarchy to give Unai Emery sufficient time to implement his ideas after the Spaniard was given the enviable task of returning us back to the top-end of the table.

Emery was given a three-year deal last month and after two consecutive seasons outside the top four, the main objective is getting us back to sitting at the top table of European football.

The former Sevilla manager has won three Europa League trophies and five domestic titles since 2013, and so our participation in Europe’s second-tier competition is rather ideal this season.

However, for Dixon, Emery must be given the length of his contract to succeed and doesn’t want a period of instability at the club.

“I’m a big believer in managers being given time,” Dixon told ArsenalFanTV.

“I think any manager who takes a job or is given a job, should be given three years.

“If the club doesn’t have success in those three years then that’s the club’s fault. In order to come into a new club, you need to change ideas, philosophies, playing staff, coaching staff and to give six months to a year is just not enough.”

Ivan Gazidis was quick to remind many that the new man wouldn’t be afforded the same luxuries as Arsene Wenger, but the club does need to find a middle-ground in terms of loyalty to a manager.

While Wenger was undoubtedly allowed to overstay his welcome, we also don’t want to follow the current trend of sacking managers at the first sign of trouble.

Check out Dixon’s thoughts in the video above.
