Arsenal players didn’t enjoy playing in front of discerning fans…

A trio of respected journalists gathered together to try and make some sense of our rollercoaster 2016/17 campaign which ended on a high after our record 13th FA Cup win.

Iain Macintosh, Raphael Honigstein and Julien Laurens are all respected members in their field as they took on the topic of Arsenal in our most tumultuous of seasons.

After starting off strongly, as we so often do, going 20 games unbeaten in all competitions up until December, back-to-back league defeats against Everton and Manchester City put us in a downward spiral.

It was also the start of the angst we witnessed in the terraces, as the calls for Arsene Wenger to walk at the end of the season grew ever more vociferous.

While the board remained silent and refused to provide clarity on Wenger’s future, the results worsened on the pitch and the atmosphere became even more toxic.

The most interesting inside track given by the journalists came from Julien Laurens who revealed that he spoke to a few players who’d made it clear that they “didn’t enjoy” playing in front of protesting fans.

One would imagine that the Crystal Palace away game may have shaken the players up after the travelling support really turned on them during the game.

“You’re not fit to wear the shirt” was the chant ringing around the ground after struggling Palace wiped the floor with us.

Iain Macintosh aimed to quell some fans’ disappointment by stating that finishing fifth and winning the FA Cup is a crisis some clubs dream of, a theory which just doesn’t wash.

Finishing fifth as Arsenal Football Club can never be looked at anything other than a disaster.

Check out their nuanced take on Arsenal’s season in the video above.
