Oxlade-Chamberlain refuses to discuss Wenger’s contract…

Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain refused to be drawn into club matters while on international duty after being asked about Arsene Wenger finally extending his contract.

After months of speculation, Wenger finally put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal, which would take his tenure at Arsenal to 23 years.

While a number of players expressed their hope that Wenger would remain, The Ox didn’t want to answer the question and instead desired to focus on the upcoming international.

“I appreciate that you’ve got to ask the question, but I’m sat next to my England manager here and I want to keep the focus on England,” The Ox responded.

“To bring any other distractions into this I think would be wrong, we’ve got a big game tomorrow and that’s the only thing that we should be talking about.”

The fact that the 23-year-old evaded the topic of Wenger when others have expressed their delight about him extending his deal is rather bizarre.

Despite the respect shown to Gareth Southgate, I’m sure he wouldn’t have minded Oxlade-Chamberlain commenting on what was the biggest story involving Arsenal all season.

Check out the video above as The Ox discusses how Wenger and Southgate share some similar traits.
