Theo Walcott says Lacazette reminds him of Defoe…

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has likened new signing Alexandre Lacazette to Spurs legend Jermaine Defoe in the way they finish chances with such ferocity.

We completed the signing of the former Lyon man last week for a club-record fee, finally pulling out all the stops to replace Robin Van Persie who left in 2012.

A number of experiments from Wenger have failed since then, and the boss has clearly felt that he could no longer gamble on that position and has signed a player with immense goalscoring pedigree.

Lacazette is Lyon’s fourth all-time goalscorer and has netted 113 goals in his last five seasons.

For Walcott, he’s seen similarities with Defoe in the clips he’s watched of his new teammate.

“The French league is very physical league but he looks like he’s in good nick,” Walcott told Arsenal Player.

“He reminds me a bit of Jermain Defoe in that he sees the target, shoots and scores.

“That’s what I’ve seen of him in little clips, so hopefully, he can bring those attributes to the team. There’s loads of competition for places which is healthy as always, but we’re looking strong.”

You can never have too many goals in the side and if we’re to challenge at the top of the Premier League next season, there’s a deficit in terms of goals that we need to make up on the like of Chelsea and Spurs.

Check out Walcott’s take on Lacazette’s arrival in the video above.
