Mesut Ozil gives his take on Alexandre Lacazette’s arrival…

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has spoken of his eagerness to link up with new signing Alexandre Lacazette after the striker arrived for a club record fee this week.

Ozil’s price tag of £42million is the one the club shattered to bring Lacazette into the club, with reports stating that his fee could rise to £52m once all the add-ons are taken into account.

Lacazette clearly possesses qualities Ozil relishes in a forward, with the 26-year-old specialising in breaking the defensive line with pace and being lethal in front of goal.

The former Lyon man netted 37 times in Ligue 1 last season and also boasts the highest conversion rate among Europe’s top five leagues, something which excites Ozil.

Ozil feels Lacazette’s coolness in front of goal will make their partnership flourish.

“We are really happy to have such a class striker here with us,” Ozil told Arsenal Player.

“I am really looking forward to it. He is a very good striker who has scored many goals in Ligue 1, not just this season but in previous seasons too.

“From what I have heard he is meant to be very good, always hungry for goals and ice-cold when he gets into a scoring position.”

At the age of 28, I like many have been oddly infuriated that we were wasting Ozil’s peak years by playing him behind such limited strikes.

He has overachieved in terms of his assists, but now he can finally lay the ball on the plate for a world class finisher.

I for one can’t wait for that first Lacazette goal from an Ozil through ball.
