Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil makes the cut

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil was included in Ball Street’s Team of the Year in 2016 with the German beating off competition from the likes of Eden Hazard and Saido Mane to make it into the XI.

Taking the performances of the calendar year into account, Ozil made the cut mainly due to his form this season as he’s added goals to the game.

The German fell off the pace in terms of his assists at the backend of last season, though he’s conjured up a habit to time his runs into the box and finish well. Ozil is one goal off entering double figures for the season already.

While Ozil made the cut, the Ball Street panel chose to overlook two more deserving candidates from our side. Hector Bellerin lost out to Kyle Walker as the best right-back – blasphemy!

Also, there was no place for Laurent Koscielny, with Toby Alderweireld and Virgil Van Dijk being partnered at centre-back.

Koscielny is the best centre-back in the league, there is no doubt about that.
