Arsene Wenger has rubbished suggestions that Mesut Ozil may be slightly distracted when facing Manchester United on Saturday due to continued speculation regarding a potential move to Old Trafford.

Ozil, who’s out of contract in less than seven months, has been linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho as he contemplates his next career move.

At 29, this will the German star’s final major contract and should he leave on a free next summer, he can certainly demand an astronomical salary from one of Europe’s elite clubs.

It seems talks are off the table between Ozil’s representatives and Arsenal if the current silence regarding his contract is taken at face value; so an exit seems likely.

However, following his virtuoso display against Huddersfield Town, Wenger believes Ozil’s commitment and focus shouldn’t be questioned.

“Look, that’s all speculation, you cannot interfere with that,” Wenger said when asked if Ozil may be distracted ahead of this fixture.

“There’s only one way to show how much you are committed, that’s your attitude on the pitch. And when you see him play, one thing you cannot question is the way he wants to play for the team.”
