Mesut Ozil linked with Jose Mourinho reunion…

Arsene Wenger quashed recent reports claiming that Mesut Ozil had already told close friends that he would be joining Manchester United in the near future.

The report, which surfaced in the Mirror and was run as an exclusive by John Cross, claimed that Ozil was seeking an exit as early as January and was looking to stay in the Premier League.

Ozil’s current deal expires in June, and Arsene Wenger has to decide whether to try to recoup some of his value in January or risk losing him for free.

While Wenger claims that Ozil extending his contract is also a likely scenario, it seems like a fantasy at this point.

“We live in an environment where we have to deal with wrong news,” the boss told reporters after the game.

“The players and myself always only have one response, [which] is what is happening on the football pitch.

“When you see Mesut focused like he was today, and enjoying his game like he was today, it is difficult to believe these kinds of rumours.”

Just as we experienced last season, it’s hard to focus on other topics when important figures at the club are nearing the end of their contracts.

Wenger claimed his situation last season wouldn’t affect the players, only to later admit that it did.

He doubled down on that initial prediction when speaking about Ozil and Alexis’ contractual situations, yet we’re constantly discussing it – especially after each defeat.
