Arsene Wenger unsure on when Aaron Ramsey will be fit…

Arsene Wenger was unable to give a timescale on Aaron Ramsey’s injury after the midfielder missed the derby at the weekend with a sudden groin injury.

After his heroics against Everton a fortnight ago, bagging a classy hat-trick in our 5-1 romp, many had hoped that Ramsey would kick-on and drive us towards our goals for the season.

However, having not mentioned him as a doubt in the build-up to the derby, Ramsey was left out of the squad and Wenger later confirmed that he had a groin problem.

Usually, when a late call is made on a player, it represents the feeling among the medical staff that it’s a short-term issue which should clear-up soon.

However, as Wenger prepares the squad for a trip to Ostersund in the Europa League, the boss said Ramsey would miss both legs of the tie and is also a doubt for the Carabao Cup final on February, 25th.

“It is a little bit sensitive case because we expected him to be a bit further in his development of the groin problem and he doesn’t move forward as quickly as we expected it,” Wenger told reporters ahead of our European clash.

“Today we would say that certainly, he will not be available even for the next game against Ostersunds. Maybe for the cup final, we don’t know yet, it depends how he will progress from now.”

Ramsey’s issues have gone under the radar in recent years with much of the focus on Jack Wilshere, but the Welshman is arguably the most injury-prone player at the club.

While the likes of Wilshere and Welbeck have suffered traumatic, long-term knocks, Ramsey is always susceptible to a muscular niggle that creeps up unexpectedly.

Having just returned from a hamstring strain suffered at Southampton, there is genuine cause for concern – especially with less than 18 months left on his deal.
