Dele Alli was on Arsenal’s radar, Wenger reveals…

Arsene Wenger revealed that Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli was on our radar during his days at Milton Keynes Dons ahead of the north London derby.

Given the close distance between Arsenal and MK Dons, Wenger claimed that we were well aware of Alli’s development having had him scouted on several occasions.

Of course, the natural follow-up question would investigate why we didn’t firm up our initial interest, yet Wenger didn’t really expand on this revelation.

Alli has been on fire for Spurs this season, propelling him to the most prolific midfielder in the division.

“We looked at him,” Wenger revealed when asked about the midfielder by The Evening Standard’s James Olley.

“He played at Milton Keynes, it’s down the road from here.

“We watched him many, many times.”

It seems Alli can now be added to the list of top players we ‘nearly signed’, a bizarre trait Wenger seems reluctant to rid of his regular vocabulary.

It’s almost as if the boss feels he has to live up to the reputation of the man who unearths talents, though speaking on nearly moments while said player is tearing up the league for a rival hardly fills us with any confidence.

In terms of our transfer policy, it really has been a while since we unearthed a true gem.
