Arsene Wenger looking to pair Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette together…

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he intends to play Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette together after the two forwards got on the scoresheet in our 3-0 win against Stoke City.

Wenger has gone for one or the other in recent matches, with Aubameyang mostly getting the nod in the league as Lacazette recovered from a knee injury.

Many had wondered if the arrival of Aubameyang in January for a club-record fee would spell danger for the former Lyon man, but the boss sees them working in tandem.

“Yes, I think they can play together,” Wenger told reporters after the comfortable win.

“I think Aubameyang played a long part of his career on the left at St Etienne and in the first two years, I think when Lewandowski was at Dortmund.

“After that, when Lewandowski moved to Bayern Munich he played central.”

Their record over the past few seasons at Lyon and Dortmund respectively has been nothing short of remarkable, and it’d be interesting to see them feature together for a sustained period.

However, Wenger mentioning Aubameyang’s brief stint as a wide-man is rather worrying considering how devastating he’s proven to be as the main centre-forward.

One hopes Wenger will the explore the two playing as a front-pairing, in either a 3-5-2 or a traditional 4-4-2.
