Arsene Wenger admits squad needs surgery…

Arsene Wenger hinted in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Manchester City clash that he’s set to go on a summer spending spree should he remain in charge this summer.

Wenger faced the press for the first time since claiming that his future was decided, though he stopped short of making an announcement on his future on Thursday.

The boss was, however, quizzed on if he believes the current squad can achieve the ambitions set by the fans and Wenger could only realistically answer it one way.

“I can’t say we have no flaws or weaknesses in our team because the results are there,” Wenger admitted.

“There’s a very strong base but the team needs to be strengthened of course.”

Wenger has publically backed the squad in the past and shied away from admitting that surgery was needed, but we’re in extreme circumstances at the moment.

We have a team currently sitting 19 points behind league leaders Chelsea and have once again exited the Champions League at the last-16 in embarrassing fashion; so something has to change.

For many fans, the problem lies with Wenger and despite turning over a number of squads over the past 12 years, the Frenchman is no closer to launching a title charge.

Check out Wenger’s full pre-match press conference in the video above as he discusses his future, Alexis Sanchez’s comments, the introduction of video technology and much more.
