Unai Emery breaks silence on Ivan Gazidis’ departure…

Unai Emery has addressed Ivan Gazidis’ departure after the chief executive finally confirmed his impending move to AC Milan following months of speculation.

Ever since the start of the season, Emery was bombarded with questions about the rumours surrounding Gazidis and was put in uncomfortable situations.

Just as he did during Arsene Wenger’s reign, Gazidis was nowhere to be seen when many wanted to hear from him until it was time to announce his exit.

Sir Chips Keswick’s weak statement in July did little to quell the talks, while Stan Kroenke’s full takeover only delayed the inevitable.

For Emery, he believes Gazidis made a personal choice and intends to fully respect it.

“The first three months with Ivan were very important for me because he’s a big person, and a professional person too,” Emery told the press ahead of our Europa League clash against FC Vorskla (via HaytersTV).

“The relationship between us was very close for three months. We spoke a lot about football, about management, about how big Arsenal is and our responsibility.

“His decision is a private one which I respect. I know Ivan is giving us the best next people [successors] to take the responsibility to continue to do good work.”

In terms of the structure at the club, Emery will now answer directly to fellow Spaniard Raul Sanllehi who has been promoted to head of football following Gazidis’ exit.
