Arsene Wenger preparing for a period without Olivier Giroud…

Arsene Wenger ruled Olivier Giroud out of the clash against Liverpool on Friday after the Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury in our Carabao Cup win against West Ham.

In a game which left little to be desired, Giroud and Coquelin seemed to suffer muscular injuries ahead of what is a very busy festive period for us.

Danny Welbeck bundled home the winner to book our place in the semi-finals, but Wenger delivered some concerning news regarding Giroud’s diagnosis.

“Overall I think’s it’s a positive night for us apart from the fact that we lost Olivier Giroud,” Wenger told the press after the game.

“Francis Coquelin’s looks to be less problematic, but Giroud looks to be out for Friday.”

When asked how bad Giroud’s hamstring injury was, Wenger replied: “In his statement, it doesn’t look very good.”

With matches against Liverpool, Crystal Palace, West Brom and Chelsea coming up in the space of 10 days, one can assume that Giroud will be out until 2018.

The 31-year-old has been used mainly as a super-sub in the Premier League this season, with Alexandre Lacazette yet to complete a league game.

His aerial threat is a serious weapon we can use in games when we’re chasing an equaliser as illustrated at Southampton, with his presence in our own box also an asset on set-pieces.

Hopefully. he makes a swift recovery, as he’s done in the past, and can return ready to help us in all competitions.
