Ex-Arsenal Man Lukas Podolski: ‘Wenger Built This Club From Nothing’

Lukas Podolski backs Arsene Wenger…

Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has thrown his support behind Arsene Wenger with the boss under severe pressure given our current plight.

Podolski was signed by Wenger in 2012 as a replacement for Robin Van Persie, but the German was used sporadically after his initial first season at the club.

After his final international game for Germany against England, in which Podolski scored a trademark winner, the former Galatasaray man believes that Wenger has become as big as the club itself.

“I don’t know what’s happened because Arsene Wenger is a good guy, a good coach,” Podolski told Sky Sports.

“He built this club from nothing to now and it will be interesting to see what will happen in the next months.”

Asked who he thought could be a potential replacement for Wenger, Podolski replied: “I don’t know who’s the guy to replace him because he is Arsenal.”

Given that Wenger has often referred to himself as the man who “built this club”, it seems as though many have taken that theory and ran with it.

However, before Wenger arrived, we already had 10 league titles – level with Manchester United and only behind Liverpool. We also won 6 FA Cups as well as a European Cup Winner’s Cup.

The Frenchman has undoubtedly shaped Arsenal in the modern era, but we were a superclub before his arrival in 1996 – the type of club that was able to attract a certain Dennis Bergkamp.
