Mikel Arteta shows his class…

Former Arsenal skipper Mikel Arteta proved his class after he stayed behind at full-time to congratulate each and every Gunners player after we defeated his Manchester City side.

Arteta left us last season and retired from the game to take a place in Pep Guardiola’s trusted coaching staff with the Spaniard providing a link between the manager and the players.

Guardiola identified Arteta as a potential confidante as soon as he was given the Man City role in December given how well he knows the Premier League coupled with his similar footballing philosophy.

It was a shame that we couldn’t keep Arteta when he decided to retire from the game given how much he took to the ‘Arsenal way’.

He may have become a liability towards the latter years of his playing career, but the former Everton man was a calming influence at arguably the most turbulent time in the club’s history.

Signed to replace Cesc Fabregas in midfield, Arteta offered us protection with the ball on the pitch and proved to be one of Wenger’s most trusted lieutenants off it.

Also, he will forever go down as the skipper who ended out painful trophy drought in 2014.
