Gabriele Marcotti weighs into the Alexis Sanchez saga…

Gabriele Marcotti has warned Arsenal fans that if Alexis Sanchez was to depart the Emirates Stadium this summer, he’d join one of the “usual suspects”.

Marcotti revealed that the finances involved in a potential deal to sign the Chilean are so eye-watering, that he can really only be afforded by Premier League rivals such as Manchester City and Chelsea.

Alexis, who’s in the final year of his contract, is typically in the midst of constant speculation about his future with Man City reportedly circling.

However, Arsene Wenger has been staunch in his stance that Alexis will remain an Arsenal player this summer despite his contract situation.

“Either Arsenal somehow that they’re going to put pieces around him so that they can win the Premier League this season and go into next season’s Champions League as real contenders,” Marcotti told ESPN FC.

“Or he’s going to sit and bide his time and let his contract run down. Unless they choose to sell him.

“They’re going to be reluctant to sell him to a rival, although they did that before with Robin van Persie, then you’re looking at City, you’re looking at Chelsea; you know, the usual suspects,” the European football expert added.

Selling Alexis at this point really doesn’t benefit us in any way, shape, or form, especially with no obvious replacement in sight.

We’re currently not a Champions League team and given how important that competition is to our financial health, we desperately need to get back in it and we’ll have a better chance with the Chilean in the side.
