Gunnerblog questions Giroud’s starting berth…

Gunnerblog’s James McNicholas recapped our last-gasp win against West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and focussed on the conundrum that is Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman netted the winner with a smart header which looped over Ben Forster, but his inclusion in the starting XI meant that we shifted Alexis Sanchez from his central role.

Alexis has thrived in the central striker role this season, netting 12 times in the Premier League, one behind leading goalscorer Diego Costa.

However, Arsene Wenger likes to give Giroud a runout at times which seriously affects the way we play football from game to game.

With Alexis leading the line, we’re able to play a swift, high-intensity brand of football which the team has become accustomed to this season.

Giroud requires a different type of service and despite netting the winner five minutes from time, Gunnerblog argues that he could’ve done that coming from the bench had we needed a goal.
