Arsenal 3-0 Bournemouth…

Arsenal put the horror show of Anfield behind them with a solid display against Bournemouth in a comfortable 3-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

Judging by the social media posts from some of our players, they were well aware that anything other than a win wouldn’t have been acceptable.

Wenger got the team selection right too, putting the wing-backs on the correct sides and also starting our record signing up front – obvious choices to many.

We pinned Eddie Howe’s men back from the first moment, and they never really got out. The pressure told five minutes in after Sead Kolasinac bombed down the left and chipped the ball into Danny Welbeck who nodded the ball home.

His effort seemed to rebound off his shoulder before trickling in, but they all count.

Mesut Ozil nearly doubled the lead from a free-kick shortly after, with his unusual run-up causing a bit of confusion for Asmir Begovic, who had to stretch fully to keep the ball out.

Alexandre Lacazette got in on the act before halftime too, with the Frenchman curling a fine effort into the top corner from just outside the box.

His finishing skills are unlike anything we’ve seen in recent times, and you always get the sense that the ball will nestle in the net everytime he’s shaping up to shoot.

After the break, we didn’t allow Bournemouth to stage a heroic comeback and after they gave the ball away inside their own half, Aaron Ramsey broke forward and played a lovely disguised pass to Danny Welbeck who guided it home.

Verdict:

It was imperative that we got back to winning ways today after back-to-back defeats, although the mood around the fan-base is still rather eerie.

Winning home games against teams like Bournemouth, who traditionally let us play and rely on their own attacking talents, isn’t what we’ll be judged on this season.

It’s when we’re asked to defend for long spells and, more importantly, when we’ve got to switch from attack to defence rather quickly after losing the ball which is a cause of much concern.

We travel to Chelsea next week, and fans are invariably holding their breath on ‘comeback’ talks until we see which team turns up at Stamford Bridge.
