Jack Wilshere was below-par in Cologne…

Arsenal playmaker Jack Wilshere has expressed frustration at his lack of regular playing time after his below-par display in our 1-0 defeat at FC Koln.

Wilshere has been relegated to the ‘cup team’, meaning he often gets game time once every fortnight and very rarely comes off the bench in Premier League games.

With the pressure mounting as he looks to prove his match fitness ahead of the World Cup, the 25-year-old has been forced to consider his position after some blunt comments by Gareth Southgate.

The England manager recently acknowledged that he may have spoken out of turn and accepted that he may need to speak to Wilshere directly, but his words have certainly had an effect.

“I want to be playing. It’s difficult when you play every three weeks. It’s the same as every player,” Wilshere told reporters after the defeat in Germany.

“I’m still determined to win my place back and we’ll see what the future holds – if I can get in or I can’t.”

Wilshere has been told to get into the Premier League team if he’s to be considered for the England squad, and with just seven months left on his current deal, he may be forced to contemplate his future come January.

Very little can be aimed at Wilshere, he’s done what’s been asked of him but is suffering from Wenger’s refusal to sway from the team he’s designed to take to the field for every Premier League game.

Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey are currently occupying the deeper roles, while Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are immovable in the two positions behind Alexandre Lacazette.
