Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann took to Twitter to address fans after it was announced that he will no longer be part of the first-team coaching staff.

Lehmann rejoined the club as a first-team coach last season as Arsene Wenger attempted to add a fresh voice to his team – the first voluntary change he made to his coaching staff during his entire Arsenal tenure.

While the German was involved in training, he was often unseen on matchdays and would largely be in the stands taking notes from a different vantage point.

However, when Unai Emery was appointed head coach, it became unclear whether Lehmann would remain at the club, especially when he wasn’t named among the initial staff members who followed Wenger out of the door.

Now, after the club confirmed who’ll be aiding Emery on a day-to-day basis, it became apparent that the ‘Invincible’ was informed that his services were no longer required.

And, if his tweet is received by fans as a parting shot, it seems Lehmann wanted to let everyone know exactly how he felt about being let go.

A statement on his personal Twitter account read: “Dear #Arsenal Fans, I am sorry to leave the club after only one year again. It was a good experience working with the players as one of the assistant-coaches. But the attitude from our 2004-group is not needed there anymore.”

Just what he means by “the attitude from our 2004-group” not being needed is up for interpretation. However, with Freddie Ljungberg now the U23s head coach, the club have proven that they want some continuity.
