French expert Julien Laurens believes that while Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette remains Arsene Wenger’s priority, a move for him can’t take place without sorting out the future of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The aforementioned duo have just 12 months left on their contract, a predicament many at the club knew would occur and purposefully put off until the summer.

As the season drew to a close, Wenger claimed that the full focus of the squad had to be on salvaging a top four slot, and so contract talks would be handled in the close season (via Sky Sports).

However, according to French journalist Julien Laurens, Arsenal’s incoming business cannot be done without knowing the future of our two superstars.

“He’s (Lacazette) the priority,” Laurens told ESPN FC

“I think nothing can happen without sorting out the Ozil and Sanchez situations.

“That’s why I think people at the club get a bit frustrated – if nothing happens with Sanchez or Ozil, the rest of the business can’t be done.”

If Lauren’s theory is true, one has to wonder why on earth the two scenarios are linked.

Lacazette doesn’t play in the same position as Ozil and Alexis and is therefore not a direct replacement.

Also, we have more than enough funds to conclude that deal without having to sell.

It really is bizarre.
