Mauricio Pochettino takes swipe at Arsenal fans…

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino took a swipe at Arsenal after he refused to be drawn on the prospect of finishing above us this season.

Our north London neighbours have been obsessed with finishing above us over the years considering that they’ve failed to do so during Arsene Wenger’s tenure, though Pochettino doesn’t share that belief.

Currently in second place, four points behind league leaders Chelsea, the Argentine claims his ambitions stretch beyond crowning himself the king of north London.

“We are not thinking to be above Arsenal,” the former Southampton boss told reporters.

“Our challenge now is to reduce the gap with Chelsea and think bigger things than finishing above Arsenal.”

A win for the hosts at the weekend would leave them 17 points ahead and secure their finish above us for the first time in over two decades.

Whether it happens at White Hart Lane or not, many of us are resigned to facing that reality this season, which will hopefully be a wake-up call.

Spurs have closed the gap steadily over the past few years yet we’ve displayed a level of arrogance due to sneaking ahead of them in somewhat amusing fashion.

Finishing double-digit points behind them would be slightly embarrassing.
