Mesut Ozil Will Sign A New Contract, But Alexis’ Future In Doubt – Report

John Cross gives updates on Alexis and Ozil contracts…

The Mirror’s John Cross said on Sunday Supplement that Mesut Ozil will sign a new long-term contract at the club, but we have a battle on our hands to keep Alexis Sanchez.

Both players are out of contract in 2018 and while the noises coming out of the club is that Ozil and Hector Bellerin have already agreed their deals, John Cross believes Alexis’ future is far from certain.

The Chilean wants to be in the same wage bracket as Ozil and, rather controversially, is angling for a release clause to be inserted into his new deal.

“Ozil is much more likely to sign, I think he will sign,” John Cross said on Sunday Supplement.

“Sanchez is a bit more problematic. It’s still up in the air whether he’ll sign.

“He’s on £130k-a-week at the moment and wants in excess of £200k. There’s an understanding that he also wants some sort of buyout clause.”

If the sticking point in the Alexis negotiations is solely down to finances, then I would expect us to push that one over the line and put him in line with Ozil in terms of wages.

However, any mention of a buyout clause will send alarm bells ringing at Arsenal given that we’ve never inserted such a clause into anybody’s contract.

Hopefully, this all gets resolved and we can focus on the mesmeric duo firing us to a league title.
