Petr Cech eyeing Europa League success…

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has warned the club that we must take the Europa League seriously next season and suggested that it would be a good learning experience for some of the younger players.

Cech, who’s won both European trophies with Chelsea in consecutive seasons, knows the importance of entering each competition with the intention of winning it.

The 35-year-old made it clear the squad was deeply disappointed at missing out on the top four, but that we’re now forced to make best of the situation we’ve let ourselves get into.

“Obviously we can’t be happy with the fact that we’re out of the top four and we will have to play the Europa League,” Cech said.

“You have to respect every competition because a European trophy is a European trophy. I think it will give everybody confidence and experience especially the young players if they feature in this.”

Cech’s stance is respectable, but the records show that no Premier League team has been able to juggle the Europa League and a league campaign successfully.

Manchester United have proven that this year, finishing in sixth place after going all the way in Europe’s second-rate competition.

If we have any intention of winning the league next season, we have to play a second-string side in all the group stage games and hope to be eliminated as soon as possible.
