Rob Holding names his Ultimate XI…

Arsenal starlet Rob Holding is the latest player to undergo the task of naming his Ultimate XI from any player in history and his team would take some stopping.

It’s always interesting to see how highly the player naming the XI rates our former players in these circumstances, and Holding has chosen two former Arsenal players good enough to make his team.

Rather controversially, Holding chose Ashley Cole as his left-back, ahead of the likes of Roberto Carlos and Philippe Lahm – all of whom the former Bolton youngster certainly grew up watching.

However, it’s Patrick Vieira who’s placed at the heart of Holding’s XI, with the Frenchman also handed the captain’s armband – something the 21-year-old made a point to mention.

“I’m going to have Patrick Vieira, he’s going to be the captain my in my team,” Holding said.

“He’s just a leader, wins the ball back, great attacking powering forward. Just the ultimate centre-mid, really.”

Patrick Vieira was certainly the last of his kind. A man-mountain at the heart of the midfield capable of keeping the opposition midfield in check all on his own.

In an era lacking leaders, too, he epitomised what’s expected of a captain. It’s not a coincidence that he remains the last captain to lift the Premier League title for Arsenal.
