Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez is building his fitness…

Arsene Wenger has reassured the masses that he there isn’t an underlining agenda behind the fact that Alexis Sanchez is yet to start a league game since the transfer window closed.

Alexis, after a summer of speculation, found himself in the starting XI at Liverpool days before the window closed and his head was clearly elsewhere.

It led to the horror show we witnessed and may have convinced Wenger to try and do a deal with Manchester City ahead of the deadline.

However, the transfer never materialised and while Wenger has never doubted Alexis’ commitment, he’s only started in cup competitions since that failed move.

Wenger, though, is adamant that Alexis is just being given games to build up his fitness before starting on a weekly basis.

“No, not at all,” Wenger told reporters who questioned if a message was being sent to Alexis.

“That’s going into very quick conclusions, not at all. Alex Sanchez has been out and injured and I thought he was still a bit short on Sunday, physically. And I played him as well last night to give him more competition.

“There’s no disguised attitude on my side, I just try to get him back to full fitness.”

Danny Welbeck suffered a groin injury at Chelsea and is set for a sustained period on the sidelines, and Alexis is certainly the natural replacement.

The focus will now turn to the team Wenger chooses to field against West Brom on Monday night.
