Arsenal boss Unai Emery wants calmness among his players but warns that results are needed…

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has called for calm following our second defeat in succession, citing a heroic effort in the first half as proof that the team is heading in the right direction.

The Spanish coach was always going to experience a tough start after we were given the last two Premier League champions as our first two league fixtures, and it’s proving to be a daunting introduction.

However, Emery is taking some solace from our attacking play in the first half in which we really should’ve netted five goals comfortably. We’ve failed to score in our last two visits to Stamford Bridge so our bravery in attack was certainly welcome.

“Calm. I think we need to give that calm to the players and continue working,” the 46-year-old told the press when asked how he’s feeling after back-to-back defeats (via HaytersTV).

I know we need to improve things. I know we need to push the players to work, but for me, there were many things positive in the first match against Manchester City. It’s clear we are a big difference from them.

“I think, today, already the team after 2-0, the reaction was a very good reaction. Also the first half we created more chances to score. The 2-2 is maybe also short for us because we created more chances to score.”

Our next eight league fixtures look rather favourable on paper (whatever that means) and Emery will certainly be looking to improve on his philosophy while maintaining good form.

The teething problems in the side were exposed by the two top-quality opposition we faced and although the challenges come thick and fast, the onus will be on us to push for the victory in the coming games.
