Unai Emery wanted to set the record straight following Brentford win…

Unai Emery has denied reports that he was responsible for the unsuccessful meeting between Germany coach Joachim Low and Mesut Ozil which were supposedly designed to clear the air, the boss told Sky Sports.

Ozil retired from international football after Germany crashed out of the group stages at the World Cup in Russia, and stated racism within the DFB as the reason behind his decision.

The 29-year-old felt that the picture he took with President Erdogan on the eve of the tournament was used to stir up xenophobic rhetoric once Germany exited the tournament.

Low, instead of standing up for his player, decided to protect his bosses and claimed that Ozil’s statements were “exaggerated”.

Now, after months of backlash back home and intense political debate, it was reported that Low was denied the possibility to see Ozil at London Colney by Emery – something he flatly denies.

“I didn’t read the news but I heard they are saying, I don’t know where, I didn’t let Mesut meet him,” Emery said after the game.

“It’s not true. It’s easy to say that here. I have no problem. It’s not true. It’s not true. It’s not true that I didn’t let Mesut meet with Loew. It isn’t true. It is not true. Ok. It’s very easy. It’s very easy for me to say that to you.”

So… I guess it’s not true. Emphatic denial from the boss.
