Jamie Carragher responds to Aaron Ramsdale…
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale addressed his father’s social media jibe to Jamie Carragher’s punditry that he objected to which has prompted a response from the Sky Sports pundit.
Speaking after England’s 3-1 win against Italy which booked their place at Euro 2024, the 25-year-old addressed his recent demotion to Arsenal’s No.2 and how it could affect his international future.
Interestingly, in his first call-up since Mikel Arteta installed David Raya as his No.1, Ramsdale is now Southgate’s third choice with Sam Johnstone getting the nod ahead of him to start in England’s friendly against Australia.
Gareth Southgate is clearly selective in terms of when he factors in a player’s status at club level and how that translates to his Three Lions team.
After admitting his disappointment at being dropped, Ramsdale also addressed his father’s decision to take to social media and respond to Carragher’s analysis of the goalkeeping situation.
“You are a disgrace!! Show some class!! My lad has,” Ramsdale’s dad posted on Twitter after Carragher mocked the former Bournemouth man’s reaction to a Raya save against Tottenham.
βHe was on a golf trip in Spain with 19 other lads from the local pub,” Ramsdale explained (via the Mirror).
“To be honest, I wasn’t too mad at him, he didn’t say anything out of turn, it just wasn’t helpful for the situation, he knew that. He obviously just had a few too many on the golf course!β
It didn’t take long before the former Liverpool man responded on his own Twitter account, sending the post below as a reply to the original article.
So he should!

It will be interesting to see what happens in January with Ramsdale visibly worried about his England spot and whether that causes him to force a move in January.
As ever with Arteta, players who ask to leave are very rarely prevented from doing so, especially if their needs cannot be accommodated.
