Aaron Ramsdale Bemoans Lack Of Consistency In Officiating vs Man City

Aaron Ramsdale is baffled by some of the decisions made by the officials against Manchester City…

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale questioned the consistency of the officiating in the Premier League after some dodgy decisions saw us defeated by Manchester City, Goal reports.

Martin Odegaard had a clear shout for a penalty in the first half and despite VAR spending some time looking at the footage, referee Stuart Attwell wasn’t advised to take a second look.

It appeared as though Ederson kicked the Norwegian’s foot onto the ball, thus making it a clear and obvious error by the official on the pitch.

In the second half, Attwell once again turned down a penalty appeal, this time for the visitors after Bernardo Silva collided with Granit Xhaka.

VAR, on this occasion, demanded Attwell take a second look at the incident and it was only a formality following that – penalty to Man City.

It was the start of a series of events – some self-inflicted – that went against us as the game turned in the champions’ favour.

Ramsdale, however, believes the game was shaped around the lack of clarity and consistency in the officiating.

“Both penalties, I don’t know why the ref is told to see one and not the other,” the 23-year-old said.

“It is there for a reason, go and use it. It is the inconsistency.

“The whole point is to help the game out, in real-time, it didn’t look like one and slow it down on a screen and it is given.”

Despite the result, the team should feel proud of their overall performance as they more than matched Pep Guardiola’s side when we had equal players on the pitch.

Nevertheless, sulking isn’t an option with a cup semi-final to prepare for on Thursday.
