Adrian Clarke’s Mustafi verdict…

Former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke named summer signing Shkodran Mustafi as his “main man” against Burnley after the German delivered a rugged performance at the back.

Mustafi, who had a brief spell at Everton during his teenage years, seemed to relish the physical battle with Sam Vokes as the two went at it all game.

The former Valencia man has formed a solid partnership alongside Laurent Koscielny rather quickly and the two have now kept a clean sheet in three successive games.

“Mustafi is looking the part in an Arsenal shirt and this was a commanding performance to add to a growing list,” Clarke said in his analysis.

While the market for defenders has certainly inflated over the past decade, £35m for the German is looking like a good bit of business by Arsene Wenger.
