Arsenal starlet Ainsley Maitland-Niles has revealed what was said to him by Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba after the Frenchman was seen sharing some words with the youngster after our Premier League defeat in April, Sky Sports reports.

Maitland-Niles starred on that particular afternoon in which Arsene Wenger fielded some younger talent as we prepared for a Europa League tie at Atletico Madrid.

The 21-year-old shone in the midfield, dominating the likes of Matic and Pogba while matching them stride-for-stride. The performance gave further credence to the idea that his best position is in the middle of the park, and Pogba definitely liked what he saw.

Despite losing the game to a last-minute header from Marouane Fellaini, we came away from the fixture excited by the likes of Dinos Mavropanos, Reiss Nelson and Maitland-Niles.

“He said to me that I need to keep working hard,” the utility man, said.

“He enjoyed playing against me and that was it really. He just told me to keep going and gave me some words of advice which was nice.”

Seeing Maitland-Niles given a run of games in midfield could be ideal as we search for where he operates best at this level.

Having said that, his versatility is an asset and one hopes Unai Emery continues to build is focus and fitness up.
