Julien Laurens warns Arsenal fans about Alexandre Lacazette…
Ligue 1 expert Julien Laurens warned that if we’re expecting Alexandre Lacazette to be the missing piece in the jigsaw for us to win the Premier League, we’re set to be disappointed.
According to the report above, we’ve tabled a £49million bid for the 26-year-old striker with a move to bring him to north London now deemed ‘very close’.
Arsene Wenger has been searching for a top striker ever since Robin Van Persie’s departure, missing out on the likes of Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain and Jamie Vardy over the past few years.
While much of the talk this summer has revolved around a sensational bid to sign Kylian Mbappé, Lacazette has always seemed like a fall-back option.
Despite stating that Lacazette has improved over the past 12 months, Julien Laurens feels the Lyon striker isn’t among the upper echelon of strikers and cannot take Arsenal to the title single-handedly.
“Arsene Wenger likes his improvement in the last season or so,” the Le Parisien reporter said on ESPN FC.
“Is he what they need? I’m not so sure.
“If the Arsenal fans wanted someone to win them the Champions League or the Premier League, Lacazette is not ready for that.”
That’s rather worrying; it’s exactly what we want.
Having said that, Arsenal fans would agree that a centre-forward alone cannot solely win us the league, illustrated by our record-breaking goal tally last season.
In Alexis Sanchez, we had a player competing at the top of the scoring charts for the first time in a while, yet the team regressed.
If Lacazette arrives, there’s still work to be done.
