Alexis Sanchez sits down with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry to explain his high-profile move…
Former Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has spoken at length about his high-profile departure in January for the first time in a sit-down with Gunners icon Thierry Henry.
Ahead of Manchester United’s clash at Newcastle United, Alexis admitted that he’s moved from one big club to another and that the thrill of a new challenge is what drove him to join Jose Mourinho’s side.
Alexis’ days at Arsenal were numbered after talks of a new deal were halted, though it seemed as though he had his heart set on a move to Manchester City.
However, a late offer from Man United seemed to turn his head, and Alexis has since attempted to convince the world that the Red Devils were always the club of his choice.
The 29-year-old’s move has been portrayed as yet another player seeking to win big trophies after growing frustrated at our lack of ambition, but Alexis doesn’t subscribe to that theory.
“There are lots of big clubs, and having played for Arsenal, they are also one of them. It’s a huge club and I was there,” Alexis told Sky Sports’ Thierry Henry.
“I came here to win [things]. I left Arsenal because I wanted to develop and learn as a player and get to experience a new club.
“Manchester United are a huge club on the global stage. I came here to win everything. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come here.”
Alexis produced some wonderful individual moments, but as we saw at Wembley yesterday, our problems stem deeper than any one individual.
