Alexis Sanchez netted a crucial winner moments before the final whistle as Chile snatched all three points against Ecuador to keep their automatic qualification for the World Cup hopes alive.
Chile suffered back-to-back defeats in their last two qualifiers against Bolivia and Paraguay respectively, results which put their World Cup hopes in serious doubts.
Alexis and his teammates also came under fire from domestic outlets, a turn of events which led to a rare outburst on Instagram from the 28-year-old forward.
Chile are still in danger of being dragged into the inter-continental play-off round if they finish fifth in the CONMEBOL league.
After taking the lead through former QPR man Eduardo Vargas, a man who’s weirdly prolific on the international stage, the hosts were pegged back with 10 minutes to go.
However, our No.7 produced a quick-fire response as he leached onto a rebound to tap home and send the crowd into pandemonium.
Arsene Wenger has always said that having our players go through positive experience while on international duty is always beneficial for Arsenal.
And with Alexis still searching for his first league goal of the season, he’ll hopefully return to his best form at Watford.
Check out his strike in the video above.
