Arsenal 2-0 Sydney FC – Alexandre Lacazette announces his arrival…

Arsenal’s record signing Alexandre Lacazette wasted little time in announcing his arrival after finding the net 17 minutes into his first appearance.

Lacazette signed for a record £52million from Lyon this month and went straight with the first-team onto the plane to Australia, a huge plus for us in terms of bedding him into the team.

Starting on the bench alongside many of the players who recently joined up with the first-team for their pre-season preparations, Lacazette finished emphatically from an Alex Iwobi cut-back to double our lead.

We produced a scintillating attacking display against Sydney FC for the opening 60 minutes, but we failed to convert our domination into goals.

Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck were the main culprits, and neither player can blame a lack of match fitness for their profligacy given their reputations.

Our two wing-backs, Reiss Nelson and Cohen Bramall were the most impressive, with the former in particular exciting fans given his burgeoning reputation.

Per Mertesacker gave us the lead int he first half, hooking a half-volley into the back of the net from a corner.

Had we not already signed Lacazette, fans would’ve been seething at our poor finishing in front of goal, and the Frenchman showed us exactly what we paid for minutes after coming on.

While it may be seen as a simple finish, seeing how Lacazette paced his arrival into the box in order to allow such a finish was particularly impressive.

He’ll undoubtedly face tougher tests in the coming weeks, but the former Lyon man knows he has it in him to find the net at any level.
