Arsenal’s hopes of sneaking into the top four on the final day ended in failure after Liverpool matched our win against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

It was always going to be a tough ask to expect relegated Middlesbrough to get a result at Anfield, and so it proved as Jurgen Klopp’s men ran out comfortable winners.

At the Emirates, however, we produced a solid display to end the campaign, despite playing with 10 men for most of the game after Laurent Koscielny was shown a red shortly after Hector Bellerin gave us the lead.

That will have lasting consequences as it means Koscielny will now miss the FA Cup final next week against Chelsea, a huge blow to our chances.

With Everton adjusting their tactics, Alexis Sanchez wasn’t waiting around and doubled our lead after latching on to Danny Welbeck’s cut-back.

Being a man down didn’t really have a negative affect on the players as we continued to pour forward in numbers and create a few chances.

However, an error from Rob Holding handed Everton a chance from the spot-kick after he handled the ball to prevent it skipped away from him.

Romelu Lukaku dispatched it comfortably to give the visitors a lifeline, but it didn’t have the desired impact.

We regrouped and after a few changes, and Aaron Ramsey curled home a sensational effort to hand us all three points.
