Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to be sidelined for a few weeks with a calf problem…
Arsenal full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to be sidelined for a few weeks after suffering another calf injury in training days after returning to full fitness, according to The Athletic’s James McNicholas.
Arteta revealed following the win against Wolves that Tomiyasu injured “the other calf” after returning to full training and being named in the squad for the visit of Brentford.
Tomiyasu initially suffered a calf injury in December during our 4-1 win at Leed United which kept him out for a month, before the 23-year-old was named in the XI that lost in the Carabao Cup semi-final to Liverpool.
The former Bologna man suffered a recurrence during the game and was on the treatment table once again, with Arteta stating that they wanted to ease him back.
However, Tomiyasu has once again damaged his calf though it’s not another reoccurrence of his previous issue with the latest set-back set to keep him out for “a couple of weeks, at least”, according to the report.
It does raise a concern about the Japanese international’s ability to remain injury-free during a season in which we aren’t necessarily navigating a loaded schedule.
Cedric Soares has performed admirably in Tomiyasu’s absence, though the games will now come thick and fast as we fulfil our rescheduled league games.
Following next weekend’s trip to Vicarage Road, we player Leicester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa within six days – a schedule that will test our delicate squad.
Hopefully, Tomiyasu can make a speedy recovery before too long as we aim to secure a return to Europe’s premier club competition.
