Arsenal boss Unai Emery refused to be drawn into the debate regarding Mesut Ozil and whether or not he’d feature at Anfield after being substituted at half-time in our last league outing.

Emery, despite making a number of half-time substitutions, shocked many when he hooked Ozil off at the break despite our positive start and dominance in the game.

Ozil didn’t necessarily do much in the opening 45 minutes at the Amex, but it was clear to see his creativity would come in handy to unlock a stubborn Brighton defence.

The Spaniard’s gamble didn’t pay-off with our second-half display comfortably ranked alone as our worst performance this season.

Ozil was left out entirely when we hosted Spurs in the Carabao Cup last week, and many are wondering if Emery feels he can rely on the German in big games.

“For me, we cannot only speak for one player,” Emery said when asked about Ozil and if he can have an influence at Liverpool, via Arsenal Player.

“For me, every player is the same. We can speak also, maybe one player now who didn’t play a lot… Jenkinson. Or Lichtsteiner or Mustafi or Kolasinac or Matteo or Mesut or Aubameyang or Lacazette or Nketiah. Every player.”

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan injured and Danny Welbeck likely out for the rest of the season, we cannot afford to drop a player of Ozil calibre.

His intensity is questionable when we’re out of possession, but you can’t expect to travel to Anfield create opportunities with very little creativity in the squad.
