Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick was the brunt of much criticism among shareholders at our annual AGM on Thursday after yet another disastrous showing.
The Gunners faithful have had their fair share of drama with previous chairmen, with Peter Hill-Wood infamous ‘than you for your interest in our affairs’ line still ringing in their ears.
This is Keswick’s second AGM since replacing Hill-Wood and it seems that’s one too many for the fans that attended the event.
After being asked a long-winded question by a passionate fan aiming to receive comfort regarding a restructuring of the board, the chairman flat-out refused to answer the question.
He was then asked why Kroenke was refusing to speak, to which he failed to give a credible answer which set the fans off.
Amidst a chorus of boos and mutterings, Keswick ended the even abruptly: “I think you’re getting very angry and there’s no point in continuing.”
If the rest of the board have any sense about them, Keswick will either be removed or never be allowed to address shareholders at AGMs in the future.
The utter contempt with which the board holds the fans was there for all to see and only intensifies the divide that’s prevalent.
It seems fans have turned away from each other with the full focus on the board.
