Arsenal star Rob Holding has undergone surgery to cure his cruciate ligament injury and will now spend a substantial period on the sidelines, the club has confirmed.

Holding suffered the injury at Old Trafford in our 2-2 draw earlier this month and the club had already revealed the extent of the injury.

It’s what they feared and now the former Bolton man will undergo a somewhat tradition rehabilitation period which has been experienced by many footballers.

It came at a bad time for Holding and Arsenal though, with the 23-year-old finally enjoying regular first-team football.

Holding started the season as a back-up option to Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi, however, an injury to the former on October allowed him to sneak in and start every league game up until his injury.

Unai Emery’s new-look system also required a player like Holding, who was comfortable bringing the ball out from the back on the left of a three.

His injury has caused some disturbance to our momentum and Emery is now tasked with reshaping the balance of the side yet again.

Given the injuries at the back and the lack of reliable options, I hope the club backs Emery in adding some defensive and offensive editions to give us the best chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
