Bryan Mbeumo was reportedly on Arsenal’s wishlist of forwards…

Arsenal were reportedly eyeing a late move in the window for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo as the hierarchy scrambled around during the finals days to complete our squad building, the Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel reports.

Edu was one of the busiest sporting directors in Europe during the final days of the summer transfer window as he attempeted to conclude the plans his team set last spring.

Those deals included outgoings as well as incomings as the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira all secured moves away.

While latter duo are away on season-long loans, Edu brought in some serious cash following the permanent sales of Nketiah, Ramsdale and Emile Smith Rowe.

However, much of the talk online among the fanbase was centred around our lack of incoming business – especially in strengthening the forward line.

Ultimately, the club decided to bring in Raheem Sterling on a dry, season-long loan with Chelsea playing the majority of the former Man City star’s wages.

According to Mokbel, a move for Mbeumo was being discussed among the Gunners’ decision-makers and, while the report doesn’t specify why the move didn’t happen, one suspects there wasn’t a consensus to pursue that deal.

The Brentford forward exclusively operates on the right-side which would’ve made him a natural understudy to Bukayo Saka. However, having already sold Ivan Toney for a huge fee to Saudi Arabia, getting the Cameroonian out of the G-tech Stadium would’ve been tough.

Our need for a forward will once again be a topic next summer and it will be interesting to see which player tops the club’s shopping list.
